How the Math Works

If you’ve come this far, chances have it you are wondering how this all works. Very good question, and a complicated one at that! First off, it will be helpful to understand how the numerology alphabet operates. While our calculator above deals solely in address numbers, numerology can go much further to uncover the meaning of street names, the deeper nature of words or names, and so much more! Hint: anything with letters or numbers is fair game!

Crunching the Numbers

Now that you’ve learned the alphabet, here is the logic behind calculating your address numerology.

Step 1: Get your address ready. And why do we only use street numbers?

Let’s use an example of 12345 Main Street for the steps to follow. The reason why we only use street numbers is simply because many experts calculate house numerology based solely on that metric. Also, your street name – “Main” – can be converted into numbers with the numerology alphabet to tell you about the numerology of your street. That specific outcome, however, will generally be different than your house number numerology.

Step 2: Sum the numbers in the street number.

1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 = 15

Step 3: Reduce if necessary.

Since numerology works on a 1-9 scale, you must reduce 15 to 6 by parsing out the individual digits and summing things up like so:
1+5 = 6

Step 4: BUT WAIT… What about apartment and unit numbers?

If you live in an apartment, your actual house number is not the street address. Your unit/apt number is!

Step 5: What if your apartment number has letters?

Use the numerology alphabet above to turn the letters into numbers. For example, if you are unit 18A, the calculation would be 1+8+1 (where A=1) = 10 = 1This same process can be used to convert any word into numbers.

A Brief History of Numerology

According to author Michelle Buchanan in the book, Numerology: Discover Your Future, Life Purpose and Destiny from Your Birth Date and Name, the Chaldean system of numerology is often considered the oldest form of numerology. Other forms of numerology can also be traced back to ancient China, Egypt, India, and Greece.

Today Western numerology – otherwise known as “modern” numerology – is sometimes considered the most popular and accurate system and is 2,500 years old. From Pythagoras, the Greek philosopher and mathematician, this type of numerology formed the basis of this post. Yet, the Kabbalistic, Chinese and Tamil (or Indian) forms of numerology are still widely practiced.

Should this post inspire you to explore more on your own, learning about each form is wise! Happy calculating!
