Born in 1945, Mats Jonasson is the third generation of his family to become a Master Craftsman of Glass. Faced with a takeover of the near century old Målerås glassworks in Sweden by non-local capital interests, Jonasson gathered together with other artists in a united effort to continue the tradition of the factory and maintain the integrity of the village. With innovative production techniques, Jonasson has acquired the skills to engrave crystal with a dimensional quality that is unsurpassed. The success of Mats Jonasson Crystal and Glass reliefs has propelled the company to triple in size over the past few decades while remaining a family sized crew of master craftsman and artisans.
