    A hammock and his trademark chest were a sailor‘s private universe. The chest stored his belongings, clothes, tools, letters…The chest handles showed his expertise in mastering complicated knots and hitches, splices and whippings. A ship‘s carpenter usually made the chest from spare deck planks, showing off his skill in angled dovetails that connect its slanting boards. Chests that survived traveling the seven seas are far and few between, so we had to research their classical design and intricate construction. Handles (old salts call them beckets...) and chest are entirely hand made.
