The top surface features an intricately hand-painted peach cluster amid a floral array, representing health and longevity, while the hand-painted paisley symbols on the two doors symbolize the creative forces of yin and yang. The top and front are bordered with alternating flowers and butterflies in an elaborate design of bright pastel colors. In Chinese thought, butterflies represent change, rebirth and duality. Zhuangzi (370-300 B. C. E. ), a Taoist poet and philosopher, wrote "I once dreamed I was a butterfly fluttering here and there. But did I really dream of the butterfly?
