| Infuse your decor with this eye-catching Oriental storage cabinet. Intricately hand-painted to appear antique, the artisan has rendered intricate, stylized green and gold butterflies and sprawling floral patterns. In Chinese thought, butterflies represent change, rebirth and duality. Zhuangzi (370- 300 B. C. E. ), a Taoist poet and philosopher, wrote "I once dreamed I was a butterfly fluttering here and there. But did I really dream of the butterfly? Or is the butterfly now dreaming of me?" A legendary story describes a tale of two lovers, Zhu Yintai and Liang Shanbo, who die under tragic circumstances and later find each other as reincarnated butterflies. In concert with traditional Chinese artisan techniques, "tongfen" or bronze powder is mixed with the paint to provide extra gleam. The conveniently located upper drawer features bearingless antique-style construction allowing smoothly access. The symmetrical bronze butterfly hardware in the center of the doors supports bronze "huaping" or flowerpot handles, the dual emblems of the female immortal Lan Caihe, which represent the transience of life. The removable doors swing open on "menzhou," an ancient hingeless mechanism which allows the doors to be easily and completely removed, to reveal the ample interior storage space. Made from sturdy poplar, this beautiful yet functional piece is sure to be a treasured possession for years to come. Measures 34 inches high x 26 inches wide x and 15 inches long.
