Exquisite depictions of exotic flora and fauna are intricately rendered in lovely faux-watercolor on the doors, side panels and top surface of this gorgeous piece. Warbling songbirds cavort among flowering peonies, bamboo, orchids, and chrysanthemums, China's ancient symbols of the four seasons. The golden background is created through color-plating using the "jin gui pai" or "golden turtle armor" method, a traditional technique dating back to the Tang Dynasty (618-907 A. D. ) "Tong fen," or bronze powder, is added to the paint to provide extra gleam and the surface is then lacquered in place, creating a lustrous finish. The front panel of the black lacquer frame is bordered with lacy gold patterning, adding a stylish element of Asian chic. Antiqued brass handle and hinges accent the enchanting design. Both the upper and lower doors open to reveal commodious storage compartments. The larger space below is equipped with a full-length shelf, ideal for keeping your possessions well-organized. The smooth top surface allows this cabinet to double as a foyer table or a display stand for pictures and cherished keepsakes.
