I see if a question that was asked prior that this fixture cannot be flush mounted. I spoke with Feiss directly and they said it can. Can you verify if that information is correct. They told me that the fixture itself screws into the mounting bracket.

We're sorry for any confusion. The Fixture can directly mount to the canopy without any stem, for a semi-flush look. Then the overall hanging height will be 20 3/8"-inch.

Can this fixture be mounted flush to the ceiling without use of the rod?

This Pendant cannot be flush mounted to the ceiling. It is recommended to use at least one down rod for hanging.

Are these more for over a kitchen Island (2 of them over an island)..this size?

A good rule of thumb is to make sure your pendant/chandelier is one-half to three-quarters the width of your table. For the right hanging height, position the bottom of the chandelier about 30-32 inches above the table, adjusting to work with the size of the table and the overall scale of your space.
