What is the size of the backplate?
There were three different sizes of these lights available. We bought the medium size lights for the outside of our house and the back plate dimensions are 5 inches wide by 8 inches high! And we bought the small size lights for our Fireplace inside the house and those dimensions are 4 1/2 inches wide by 6 inches high! Hope this helps.

Does this come in a larger size? Is there also a copper finish that would be brighter in color?
They come in two sizes, I have the larger ones on my front porch and smaller ones on my garage.
I don't know about a brighter finish, this one looks great though.

How can the bulb be replaced
I love love love these lanterns! It's so easy to change the bulb from under the lateen because this part is open. My old ones needed to be unscrewed to change the bulb and this was frustrating.

do do these fixtures have photo cell capability for dusk to dawn lighting?
I don't know if they do. But I love these lights. Had them in another home and moved and ordered the exact same ones.
