Seagulls soar through the clear blue sky in this beautiful hand-loomed tapestry. Nilda Amaro captures the freedom of the flock as she creates a realistic scene in virgin wool. Titled "El vuelo de las gaviotas" in Spanish.
About the Artist: Peru's Nilda Amaro Oscanoa inherited her art from her ancestors. 'Ever since I can remember, I have seen every one of my relatives weaving: great-grandparents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins and brothers,' she recalls. 'That is to say, I grew up amid looms and yarns. I enjoy making Cubist-style designs inspired by our folklore and everyday scenes from my village. I weave with sheep's wool, which I color with natural dyes. On occasion, my mother helps me to design and weave.'
The Nilda Amaro Oscanoa Artisan Collection is brought to you by Novica in Association with National Geographic. This beautiful piece was handcrafted by Nilda Amaro Oscanoa in Peru. An artisan story card will be included with your purchase.
