I made this sculpture as a tribute to life, confides John Barrow. "The different colors represent the joy of life, of feeling, and of having hope for the future. Its optimism is contagious." Barrow crafts the sculpture with hand-carved segments of cedar, mahogany and ishpingo woods. He stains the woods with colorful natural dyes.
About the Artist: John Barrow was born in London and settled in Peru in 1969. He learned the wood carver‘s craft from his father. ‘Living in Peru, I got to know a variety of beautiful wood types. When I retired, I was finally able to dedicate myself completely to my passion, carving! I have designed my own machines and tools to help me work the wood in a different way.‘
The John Barrow Artisan Collection is brought to you by Novica in Association with National Geographic. This beautiful piece was handcrafted by John Barrow in Peru. An artisan story card will be included with your purchase.
