The white blossoms of Sawankaloke shower this vase with their pristine beauty. Shaped like the traditional vases of ancient Lanna, this work's blend of artistic stylizations is harmonious. Kittikorn designs the vase in celebration of Thailand's ceramic legacy and uses modern-day kilns and tools to recreate the ceramic artistry made famous by Sawankaloke artisans since the 12th century in central Thailand. Kittikorn works with local clays and after hand-painting the item, he uses a glaze of feldspar and longan wood ashes dissolved in water.
About the Artist: After graduating from the university in Thailand, Kittikorn went to Australia, where he earned a master's degree in economics. 'It was a great experience,' he says. 'I returned to Thailand in 2003 and decided to work for my father at his workshop. I've had to learn every aspect of the method. For me it's been a great challenge! I love to design and create more and more new styles that can be developed into actual products. My work has a distinct style and is completely hand-crafted.'
