The magical artistry of the Inca Empire resurfaces in the woven masterpieces of Cerapio Vallejo. Working on a handloom, he weaves a wool tapestry featuring stylized iconographies for a frame. The center features a collection of ducks and cats in symmetrical and fused form. Enhanced by vivid colors, the effect is dazzling. 90 percent wool, 10 percent cotton.
About the Artist: Peruvian artisan Cerapio Vallejo was forced to leave his home in Ayacucho during the 1980s. ‘Terrorists were bleeding my people to death and there seemed little hope. I inherited my passion for weaving from my parents and grandparents. But the quality of my work is the result of my long experience, and the product of my careful observation over the years. I draw inspiration from our ancient Peruvian cultures, Andean village life, and from our snow-capped mountains.‘
