Well Made and Impressive Looking Light Fixture
Have this light fixture installed in our foyer. It makes an impressive statement upon entry to our home. It was well worth the cost, and the long wait to have it delivered. It is a fairly large fixture, the six light is the medium sized in a trio of similar fixtures, so make sure that you check the dimensions for fit. The fixture hangs from an included cable, so it can be mounted anywhere from a few inches from the ceiling down to 9.5 feet from the ceiling (not including the fixture height.
Pros:
* Well made frame, solid but lightweight materials. Cables and wire are also high quality.
* Great design: Fixture looks good when unlit (the glass has a slight tan tint to it) and looks great when lit.
* Six bulbs (included) provide plenty of light
* Great value compared to other similar fixtures.
Cons:
* The installation instruction sheet is worthless. No detail on how to mount to the j-box, no real detail regarding how to mount the canopy, nor the best way to mount the glass. (See below for some suggestions if you purchase this item.)
* Despite the manufacturer emphasizing "California Based", in reality the fixture is made in China, not the USA, and imported. Doesn't affect functionality but may be important to some buyers.
* Drop shipped from importer located in California. Don't believe any in stock information, it may take weeks to arrive.
* Ships regular UPS Ground. There is no "Threshold Delivery Service" for this item, it is not even shipped requiring a signature. Expect drop and run service from UPS.
Installation Tips:
* As can be seen in the photos, some of the triangular glass panels face the ceiling and some are angled downward to face the floor. Suggest installing all of the glass panels (or at least the lower four panels) prior to hanging.
* Don't forget to install the light bulbs before the panels. The bulbs are Xenon so use a towel or gloves to handle the bulbs, not bare hands.
* The bulbs get VERY HOT! Do not try to clean the inside of the glass with the lights turned on.
* The screws that hold the glass panels are actually made up of six separate parts. As you unscrew them, you may have the stem come out with the nut, or the stem stay in the bushing. For the upper panels suggest leaving the stems in the bushings for the glass to rest on, and then screw on the nuts.
* There are very fine clear washers (2 per stem) that are used to protect the glass. Easily lost like contact lenses if they are dropped, and they tend to stick together. Be careful not to lose them.
* You may need to slightly loosen the stand-off mounts for the glass in order for the glass panel to fit on all the stems.
* Mounting the fixture to the ceiling may require thought and additional brackets not included. The center cable upon which the fixture hangs needs to mount to something solid in the ceiling so that the fixture can be wired while the decorative canopy is moved towards the fixture. I purchased a steel strap to mount across the j-box, tied the center cable to that strap which allowed the fixture to hang freely, then completed the wiring. Finally I pushed the canopy cover up to the ceiling to finish the installation.
