- The launch of the sputnik satellite in 1957 captured the world’s imagination, dawning a new era of design innovation in the race to reach the stars. The sputnik chandelier embodied this spirit of modernity and became an icon of mid-century style. Our Glendale pendant revives the innovative spirit of sputnik by suspending the signature starburst within a crisp, black, textured iron cube to create a play of stunning effects. The capsule shape of the tungsten filament bulbs offers smooth respite from the striking linear motifs. Extending the starburst’s sleek metal rays to anchor points in the cube’s inner corners allows the chandelier to float within a darkly outlined space.
