This Pendant includes two 6", one 12", two 15" stems and 6 links of chain. So, the overall hanging height can be adjusted between 16.5 inches to 70.5 inches.

Is the length of the drop between the ceiling and the lamp variable? Can this be fitted to a UK electrical system?

This fixture comes with two-6", one-12", two-15" down rods. So the hanging height is adjustable. This item was designed to be used with 110 - 120 volt wiring in countries compatible with specified voltage. To make this item compatible with UK - 230 volt wiring in many different countries. A 230 volt light bulb with the light bulb base stated in the listing will be required. Please consult your electrician to see if this meets your local building requirements.
