6 Design, Remodel and Build Trends to know for 2022

So, we’ve scoured the articles. We’ve referred to the experts. We’ve looked at the data. And we’ve come up with some solid predictions you can hang your hat on for 2022.
Without further ado, here are Bellacor’s six design, remodel and build trend predictions for 2022.
Kitchen storage that isn’t a reach
Demand for more storage continues to be a driving factor behind many kitchen remodels. And yet, a seemingly contradictory trend is also on the rise — removing upper-level cabinetry.
Kitchen islands with ample storage (like this piece from Yosemite Home Decor), pantry walls and other more easily accessible storage solutions are rendering the upper-level solutions cumbersome and unnecessary. By taking them out, brighter kitchens and bigger windows are possible. And with families still spending a lot of time at home, such inviting features are highly desirable in the heart of the house.

At-home spa
This one’s been on the rise this year and is set to keep skyrocketing in 2022. The median spend on bathroom remodels is rising, and a luxurious and relaxing vibe is what homeowners are searching for. But what are the spa-like features clients are most interested in for their homes?
According to research published by Houzz:
• 2 in 5 homeowners are remodeling bathrooms with rest and relaxation as their main goal
• The top features they’re looking for include:
o A clean and uncluttered aesthetic
o Natural light
o Dimmable lighting
o Greenery

Wallpaper will keep winning hearts
According to Yelp, searches for wallpaper were up 167% in 2021, and experts are predicting the interest to continue into 2022.
Wallpaper fits neatly into a lot of the pervasive design trends of our times, with biophilia and Maximalism being particularly well-served. Wallpaper designers are leaning into colorful and organic motifs, often featuring plants and animals like these stunning designs from Rifle Paper Co.
Sculptural lighting makes a statement
Statement lighting doesn’t have to be bold and brash to stand out and beautify a space. In 2022, look for the light to shine a little brighter on lamps and fixtures that are themselves works of art. According to a report from Etsy, searches for sculptural lighting increased 27% in 2021 and the trend is expected to continue in the new year.
Floor lamps like this showstopper from the Jamie Young Company or this curvy stunner from ET2 can make a living room feel like a mini modern sculpture garden. Fashionable, flexible furnishings
Continuing down the path of flexibility, adaptable furniture is going to be a popular choice in 2022. According to Etsy's latest trend insights, searches for modular, convertible and nesting tables are up 14% year over year. And a quick check of Google Trends shows that search interest in modular seating has been high since the start of the pandemic.
