What color is the lightening strip when turned off? It appeared to be a distinct (1st pic) color instead of a white strip/border.
The LED strip is a grey shade when the light is turned off.

The light source definitely shrinks the useable mirror. How far from the edge is the light source and how wide is the light source?
There is a LED strip about 2-3 Inches inside the mirror. A button is located on the bottom left-hand corner of the mirror that is used to turn on and off the mirror. The light is emitted from this strip and provides a decent glow from the LED strip, which extends to the back edge of the mirror, but does not originate from there. It does not shrink the usable part of the mirror.
