Description
This haunting image is taken from the New Orleans sarcophagus-type graveyards. These graveyards feature above-ground tombs as the land lies below sea level. The mausoleums in these graveyards, which can entomb entire families, sometimes have ornamental statues and ironworks. The image in this painting is of one of these statues, a protective angel to look after the loved ones into eternity. The artist does a fantastic job of bringing out the eeriness and age of the statue.
