Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality Waited too long to return these but would have loved to. One of the nuts holding up the base broke off. In trying to make adjustments, the silver backing tore to pieces. The glass is not attached to the outer frame so it was very difficult to place it on the base. Would not recommend at all.

Q & A

Is the bottom of the fixture open, as in can you see the bulbs? The photos seem to indicate some sort of screen/ diffuser on the bottom of the fixture but the description says "large open shades". What does it mean "shades" in plural?

Correct, there is a screen over the light bulbs so it's not open and you can't see the bulbs. I mounted it on my basement stairs and all good.
