It appears this product is "dry rated."  Should I assume then that it is not advisable to use as bathroom vanity sconces because of steam from hot shower?

I can't say for sure, but my guess is that it's because of the shade. It may just be designed for interior installation rather than hanging outside under the drip of the eaves in the rain. We have two of them in the kitchen and one hangs over the sink. No problems with it so far. This company had some terrible reviews on the internet, but we had no issues with them at all. The shipping was slow, but within their stated timeline. I would probably order from them again if they had something I needed.
