Adding an accent table to your home is an almost-effortless way to fill space with a decorative piece that communicates your personal style. Not only is it a visually pleasing addition to your home, but these types of tables are also functional and convenient, requiring very little assembly. By creating surfaces for décor, flowers, picture frames, an accent table will highlight the personal details of your home while simultaneously providing storage capabilities.

Decorative tables come in several shapes and sizes, and the right table for you depends largely upon where you choose to place it. Besides determining the type of table you're shopping for, you will also have to choose the shape, size and finish. Table finishes include metal, glass and wood--all of which have more granular modifications such as type of wood or metal.

Accent Tables for Entryways
An accent table in the foyer is often the first thing that guests see when they enter your home. The width of your entryway will ultimately determine which type of table is right for you. A console table is the most common entryway table. Because of its long and narrow design, console tables are perfect for placing against a wall or in a hallway. Designed to be both aesthetic and functional, console tables are the perfect piece of furniture to hold keepsakes like picture frames or décor, but they are also functional and can serve as a drop-off place for keys and mail.

If you are working with a large entryway with ample floor space, you may want to consider a round foyer table placed in the center of the room. You can choose to either complement or contrast the table with an underlying rug beneath the table or a dramatic centerpiece on top.

Living Room Accent Tables
If you're looking to add an accent table to the living room, a coffee table or an end table is what you're after. A coffee table, also called a cocktail table, is specifically designed to be placed in front of a sectional, love seat or couch which is why they tend to be built lower to the ground. Coffee table design varies—anywhere from rustic farmhouse to contemporary—but it's important to first consider whether or not you need a coffee table with storage. Coffee tables that provide storage, perhaps for toys, magazines, books or coasters, help to keep your living room organized while also providing a visual focal point for the room.

The other living room accent table is an end table or a side table. As the name implies, they are the perfect size to place in the space at the end of your couch and are designed to align with the height of a couch. Side tables perform a key function in any room supplying a stylish perch for décor, lamps, food and drinks.

Living room accent tables come in all shapes and sizes, but a good rule of thumb is to match the end tables if you're placing one at each end. They do not have to be identical, but the style should be consistent in terms of shape and finish.

Buying the Right Accent Table
If you've made it this far, you've likely selected at least the type of lifestyle table you're looking for. This will help you narrow down your search significantly. Once you determine the shape and finish, you can use the filters on the site to help you narrow down the search even further. If you're feeling stuck, take a look at the visual guide below that will help you figure out which style of table you're after.
