Pantone Evolution – Infographic

Since the turn of the Millennium, Pantone™ has kept a steady finger on the pulse of the global zeitgeist. What do they feel? The steady beat of change – tracking shifting trends across fashion, entertainment, art, film, technology, jewelry, politics and more.

Unveiling more than just color, the Pantone Color of the Year has emerged as a force for both reflecting and shaping global consumer culture. Now 17 years and 19 colors later – as 2016 famously awarded the top spot to two colors – we have enough information to put our antennae up and try to detect some patterns. While no single pattern goes unbroken, 2017’s Greenery being a great example, some intriguing five year Pantone patterns do emerge. As you examine the trends for yourself in our handy infographic, what are your predictions for the 2018 Pantone Color of the Year? Remember: wild cards and outliers almost always break the pattern!

Quick Side Bar: For anyone hoping to unleash the power of Pantone in their home, business or even branding, Pantone graciously shares all of their color codes in multiple formats. Across different computer screens, resolutions and more, how can you possibly hope to represent the true spirit of their carefully selected colors without this level of precision? Who knows, perhaps one of you out there might notice another pattern with this added layer of detail!
