Are the tubular pieces of metal that hold up each bulb ridged or smooth? If the pictures they look ridged. Looking for smooth.

They are NOT ridged.  Smooth, painted black.  Tried white paper candle covers but I liked the simple black with frosted bulbs.  Happy with purchase.

How much length is the shortest that this chandelier needs?
