Nice lamp - Packaging issues
The lamp is good quality. The packaging (from the manufacturer) was a nightmare. The styrofoam broke into little pieces that stuck to everything in the room and it took hours to clean up. I recommend you request they repackage it and send it in cardboard or paper.

Does it pivot where it meets the base in addition to extending?
This lamp does not pivot at the base or the neck. It extends pretty far and the lamp itself can be moved up and down but not from side to side.

How long is the cord and where is the on/off switch?
The cord length is approximately 6 Feet and the on/off switch is around a foot or so down from the fixture.
