What does the hook on the opposite end of the fixture connect to? I assume it is something in the ceiling since I don’t want this just hanging straight down.

The Atom 10 is adjustable to a maximum overall height of 39 and a half inches and can be hooked to ceiling or adjacent wall as per your requirement.
