Holiday Decorating Tips with Tablescaping
The holidays are right around the corner and you know what that means…it will soon be time to pull the Christmas boxes out, turn on the Christmas music, and start decorating the house because Santa and his reindeers will be here in no time.
To get you in the holiday spirit, here are some wonderful decorating tips:
I'll Be Home for Christmas
If you have company coming over or family coming home for Christmas, then you’ll want to set a beautiful inviting table to enjoy a lovely sit down meal together. You’ll make everyone feel incredibly special, if you create a stunning table. Start with a focal point (this could be your centerpiece) and build your table around it. Gorgeous white Santas walking through the snow amid a snow flocked Christmas tree can create a wonderful setting.
Next you’ll want to add individual place settings. Plaid is enormously popular this time of year. It’s very versatile and allows you to mix in several solid colors to match its pattern. Holiday plaid placemats and napkins work well with solid red plates and accent chargers. You can create your own napkin rings by gluing snowflakes onto solid round napkin rings. Or you can use a non-permanent adhesive such as earthquake putty to secure the snowflakes. This allows you the ability to remove them for easy storage.

If you want to display your Christmas décor beautifully, then don’t place holiday items randomly around your house. Group like items together and create small vignettes on your mantle, coffee table, bookcase, etc. This creates a huge impact and leaves a lasting impression on your guests.

Many folks place a wreath on their front door to welcome their guests. However, consider other areas within your home where you can place a wreath to make it more festive. This one simple decoration can dress up a bare wall in any room or hallway to make it more appealing. Experiment to find what works within your home.

If you believe Christmas is simply more than presents under a tree, than be sure to add the appropriate elements to your décor. A lovely white pre-lit wooden church can add charm and appeal to any winter wonderland, as it’s not something you typically see in a wintry scene. The wooden church also works well for a casual motif if that’s more your style.

Whether decorating the tree, spending time with friends, or watching Christmas movies, a cup of peppermint flavored hot chocolate is sure to warm everyone’s heart on a cold winter day or night. Top with whipped cream and crushed peppermint candies to make it pretty. This seasonal drink can be found in most grocery stores during the holidays. You can also find flavored coffees and teas during this time of the year, so drink up!

O Christmas Tree
Remember your Christmas tree is the main focal point and typically the first thing someone sees when entering a room. Whether you prefer an artificial tree or a real tree, make sure it shines! A tree with all white lights is very classy and elegant, whereas one with multicolored lights is more warm and cozy. Just don’t mix the two!
Next it’s time to add some sparkle to your tree. Choose silver or gold ornaments and place them sporadically around the tree. If you prefer a more casual or natural look, a few brown or gold ornaments will work nicely. Sparkle doesn’t necessarily mean bling or glitter. It simply means to reflect light. So place some ornaments on your tree to reflect more light. Shiny ball ornaments in any color will usually accomplish this and they’re fairly inexpensive.
Add character to your tree. Place your personal Christmas ornaments around the tree filing in all the open spaces or pockets. Occasionally, stand back and check the tree from different angles and adjust any ornaments, so the tree is balanced with color and detail. Finish by adding any additional embellishments to the tree, a tree skirt around the base, and a beautiful tree topper!
Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
It’s a busy time of year between shopping, baking, decorating the house, wrapping gifts, and getting it all done before the big day arrives. It can be exhausting, so to help you find time to relax, place a soft cashmere throw and decorative pillow on a chair to remind you to sit back and enjoy the season.
It will be over before you know it and you’ll be pulling the boxes down from the attic and doing it all over again next year! Until then, have a wonderful holiday season!

You’re Invited Magazine was founded by two sisters who had a love for tablescapes. Their love for dressing up their tables for the holidays, entertaining with family and friends, or planning themed parties and events came from their mother, who was the Queen of Parties. She loved to celebrate life and all the events that commemorate it and passed it on to her daughters. Linda and Sheri thought it would be wonderful to create a magazine (another love of theirs) that focused on various celebrations throughout the year, but also encompassed editorial content that would educate, entertain, and inspire their readers. They enlisted the help of their sisters, Cindy and Deborah, and a very close friend, Kathleen, who have contributed to the magazine. Their goal is to encourage you to gather your friends and family and celebrate life’s precious moments through potlucks, parties, and entertaining and to be so inspired by their themes and ideas that you’ll want to copy them and share them with your friends.
