Each rough cut gem glass is lit by (small and high efficacy) hidden LEDs, highlighting a subtle dual-colored reflective brilliance. Dichroic glass was developed by NASA for use in space shuttles. Making dichroic glass requires a complex processing technique in high-temperature vacuum chambers using vaporizing metallic oxides such as magnesium and titanium. The process requires 15 to 45 individual layers totaling a width less than a single human hair.
